About

Michaela is a fully qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher (500 hours training), and holds BWYQ Level 4 Diploma.  She trained in London at Yoga Junction, with Tara Fraser and Tarik Dervish.  She continues to train and develop, attending courses and workshops with renowned teachers such as Gary Carter and Norman Blair, and completing a level 1 in Yin Yoga teaching with Sarah Lo.  Her classes are suitable for all levels and abilities; all you need is the desire to try something new and be open to all experiences!

IMG_0272The kind of yoga she loves to practice and teach is strongly influenced by the classic yoga texts The Hatha Yoga Pradipika, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita and The Upanishads.  She describes her style as classic-eclectic Hatha Yoga, because she bases her teaching on the classics, but likes to draw from other schools of yoga too to keep things fresh and interesting!

Her classes are a mix of Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing practice), meditation, deep relaxation, and some esoteric and philosophical work. Through yoga we work on our physical bodies, maintaining and hopefully improving our range of movement, strength and flexibility.  We work on our minds, learning to still and quieten the mind, enabling us to sit in meditation, leading to the ultimate aim of the unification of the mind and the body, and the Self and the Universe.

Michaela also teaches Yin Yoga, a more passive style of yoga which directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets and applies moderate stress to the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body, with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.  The practice of Yin is an opportunity for communicating in a sweeter and more compassionate way with ourselves. Within the safety and softness of the poses we are better able to send and receive our heart’s messages, to fortify the parts of us that need attention and to encourage a greater understanding of ourselves in this world.
