What could be better than combining my two favourite things – wine and yoga?! I was delighted to be invited to teach at Brynne Vineyard’s first ‘Yoga at the Vineyard’ event on 13 August. The vineyard can be found at Brixworth, Northamptonshire, very close to Pitsford Water. It is a very peaceful, tranquil place, and the view of the vines and the water makes it a very special place to teach in.
Following some very sad news on the day before I was due to teach here, I was struggling to find internal peace and meaning. But when one is teaching a class, all other thoughts fade from the mind, and for me, teaching becomes like a meditation. I become totally absorbed in the class I’m teaching and the students who have allowed me the privilege of teaching them that day. The sun was shining, the weather beautifully warm, and a soft breeze blew across the vineyard – just enough to cool the heat of the sun. And teaching there, in that wonderful, calm location, I felt peace. I could let go, just for a while, of the news that was troubling me. I really needed that class that day – I think I got more benefit from it than the students who came along for the class!
It was truly a pleasure to welcome students I had never taught before – some experienced yogis, and others completely new to yoga, taking that daunting first step on their yoga journey. The perfect end to a perfect afternoon? A glass of wine from Brynne’s own vines! Everyone enjoyed a glass of wine of their choosing as part of their day, getting to taste each first.
Om and Prem.
