Well, I’m not sure where the last few months went; last time I looked it was April and we were eagerly awaiting Spring. All of a sudden we are mid August!
Lots of fun, exciting things happen in Summer, with warmer weather and lighter, longer evenings – parties and BBQs, impromptu gatherings with friends, Weddings and out-door celebrations. All wonderful chances to celebrate being alive. Yes, they take us away from our regular practice sometimes (empty spaces around the room tell me that!), but you know what? It doesn’t matter. Anything which makes us feel like ourselves once more, content and happy, our true authentic selves, is Yoga, as far as I’m concerned.
The Bhagavad Gita tells us that “yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the Self”. Exploring what makes you feel whole again, more like yourself, is part of that journey. Partying and laughing with good friends and family definitely counts, and when you feel more like yourself, you’ll be ready to get right back on the mat.
I love teaching my regular class, watching everyone grow and develop their practice. In the summer, there’s also the chance to teach at outdoor events, mini festivals and workshops; I love these opportunities in a different way, meeting students who are perhaps trying yoga for the first time, or who want to explore an aspect of yoga more deeply.
This week I’m excited to be teaching at Brynne Vineyard, at their “Wine, Body and Soul” afternoon – what’s not to love?! I’ll let you know how I get on! Next week is our half-day mini ‘Re-Treat’ – “We Become One”. I love the background philosophy around union of energy, lunar and solar, yin and yang, so I’m loving researching and writing this one for you. If you haven’t booked yet, there are 2 spaces available, so come along and treat yourself to some precious time out! I’ll let you know how it goes!
So remember, it’s not about touching your toes, it’s about what you learn on the way down!
See you on the mat!
